Managing Qualitative Social Science Data

An interactive online course

Why data management?

Research data management is caring for, facilitating access to, preserving and adding value to research data throughout its lifecycle. Data are valuable, and form the basis for your empirical claims. Better data management means better research, can help you address concerns about your data that reviewers of your research might raise, and makes your data more easily shareable.

SSRC and QDR

The Social Science Research Council is a U.S.-based independent nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing research in the social sciences and related disciplines. The Qualitative Data Repository is an NSF-supported domain repository dedicated to curating, preserving and publishing the data underlying qualitative and multi-method research in the social sciences.

Structure of the course

This interactive on-line course includes four modules, each with multiple lessons. Together they constitute a complete course on managing qualitative data; each lesson is also designed to function as a stand-alone resource that can be completed individually. Most lessons include associated readings, resources, exercises, and activities.
